2.4 Service Development
The Service Development category provides a Federated Service Creation Environment (FSCE) which enables the development
of SLEE services and Resource Adaptors for the Rhino SLEE platform.
Also included in the FSCE are tools to support the following:
• Functional unit testing of services.
• Performance testing.
• Failure recovery testing.
• Example demonstration services.
The key design objectives of the FSCE initiative as shown in Figure 2.2 and their relation to the Software Development Life-
cycle (SDLC) are:
• Rapid service application development environment. The FSCE has been designed to be compatible with third party
testing tools, build tools and IDEs.
• Developers can leverage expertise with their existing tools and technologies.
• Producing and maintaining a SLEE software product is more complex than writing source code, software testing and
conditioning is an important process of the software development life-cycle. The FSCE facilitates the development of
reproducible unit test cases.
• Durability and performance latency are potentially critical for network-oriented SLEE services. The FSCE offers load
generation tools to perform and operate performance testing at the appropriate stage of the software development life-
cycle.
